Just The Cheese Barbeque flavor are just about right to my taste: a little too salty, not extraordinarily cheesy, with just a tang of BBQ flavoring. Maybe I have a weird palate, but I'm not hating these snacks like most reviewers do.
So why only two stars? For one, JTC brand is hardly "just the cheese." Pull up a chair while I recall the ingredients (other than the cheese) in the Barbeque flavor: powdered cellulose, salt, tomato, torula yeast, spices, dehydrated garlic and onion, natural smoke flavor, paprika, sodium diacetate, inosinate and guanylate, sucralose, and silicon dioxide. Got all that?
Two, JTC brand proudly boasts "1 g carbohydrate per serving." Perfect, in other words, for low-carb diets. If you look at the back of the Herb & Garlic flavor, one serving is about 18 pieces, 150 calories, and contains 10 grams protein. So a bag contains two servings. All well and good. Until you get to the Barbeque flavor, where one serving is 9 pieces, 75 calories, and contains 5 grams protein. So the Barbeque bag, which contains the same 2 oz. as the Herb & Onion flavor, has twice as many servings! In other words, JTC brand has toyed with the serving size so they can boast 1 g carbohydrate per serving. Unless you're on an ultra-low carb diet, those few extra carbs won't matter much. But manipulating the serving size to get that crucial "1 g carbohydrate per serving" is dishonest in my book.
And finally, JTC brand is too expensive for what you get. I know that cheese isn't cheap, and that JTC brand is a smaller company not affiliated with any of the big names like Nabisco. But a little over two dollars is a bit much for a small bag, even if the texture does relieve a chips craving.
